"These Letters End in Tears" by Musih Tedji Xaviere is shortlisted for The British Book Awards 2025

The Pontas Agency is pleased to share that These Letters End in Tears by Musih Tedji Xaviere has been shortlisted for Book of the Year in the DISCOVER category at The Bookseller's 2025 British Book Awards!

These Letters End in Tears is UK-based Cameroonian author Musih Tedji Xaviere's debut and it was published in March 2024 by Jacaranda Books in the UK, by Catapult in the US, and by Masobe Books in Nigeria. It was the winner of the 2021 Pontas and JJ Bola Emerging Writer’s Prize.

Danish rights were pre-empted by Klim, Italian rights were pre-empted by Astoria, and Dutch rights have been sold to Orlando. All other translation and audiovisual rights are available.

These Letters End in Tears is a heart-wrenching and unputdownable contemporary upmarket novel at the intersection of faith, race, and sexuality, that follows the forbidden love story of a Christian girl with a rebellious heart and a Muslim girl leading a double life in contemporary Cameroon, where being gay is still punishable by law.

It was a Most Anticipated Book of 2024 for Electric Literature, Debutiful, Them, and LGBTQ Reads, among others, and Brittle Paper Notable African Book of 2024.

Congratulations, Xaviere!
