The second Hay Festival of Arequipa (Peru) took place from December 8-11, 2016. Four days of literary and cultural exchange with an audience of more than 15,000 people, with over 100 guests from 15 countries on a full programme of activities, talks, readings, conferences, film screenings and workshops.
Anna Soler-Pont attended the Hay Arequipa on behalf of the Pontas Agency and participated moderating a panel-conversation about “Books & Laws” within a section of the programme on publishing industries, together with Peruvian publishers Germán Coronado and Leonardo Dolores (photo below, left); and moderating another panel about “Writing´s perspectives”, together with authors Claudia Salazar Jiménez, Manuel Astur and Susanne Nolthenius (photo below, right).
Arequipa received authors and thinkers from all over the world, such as Nigerian Ben Okri, French David Foenkinos, Jody Williams (Nobel Peace Prize Winner 1997) Ahmed Galai (a member of the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015), the Italian novelist, playwright, television presenter and screenplay writer, Alessandro Baricco (photo below, left). Also illustrators such as Argentinean Liniers and Chilean Alberto Montt, who had a huge success while accepting the challenge of being onstage, sharing their cartoons with the audience, showing what a good team they make. Their irony, acidic humour, ideas and all their talent were brought on stage, in interaction with each other and with the public, in a unique event (photo below, right).
Argentinian photographer Daniel Mordzinski was also there and took lots of his special shots. Also one of Anna Soler-Pont together with the four authors represented by the Pontas Agency who attended the Hay Festival Arequipa: Peruvian authors Claudia Salazar Jiménez, Renato Cisneros and Gustavo Rodríguez; and Basque author Kirmen Uribe. In the photos below, the making of (while we wait for the final photo and frame it!).
