Patricia Sánchez and Marina Penalva attended the Göteborg Book Fair on behalf of Pontas this year. The main reason was to meet with the young and talented Sara Lövestam and Christoffer Carlsson, who were both promoting their latest novels in front of enthusiastic crowds.
However, the Göteborg fair and its rights centre, sometimes together with a visit to New York, has also become an obligatory stop for international editors hoping to catch up on hot titles before the Frankfurt Book Fair. There was a high pressence of Dutch and German professionals (here below, Eric Visser and Nele Hendrick from De Geus with Patricia; and Maren Artz from Carl’s Books with Marina), as well as editors from Italy, France, Turkey and the UK, among others. The rights centre and the exceptionally good weather provided a cozy and slightly more relaxed atmosphere than Frankfurt (though not much!) to discuss forthcoming books and titles.
Patricia and Marina made new contacts and caught up with long-standing agency collaborators, and took the opportunity to present some of the new agency authors such as Fiston Mwanza Mujila, Imraan Coovadia, Ayesha Harruna Attah, Mainak Dhar and the Swedish author and journalist Terese Cristiansson, among others.
