At the Pontas Agency we're excited to present two debut authors writing in English whose novels will be published in 2020: Eloísa Díaz and Y.S. Seraph.
Federico Andornino, Commissioning Editor at Weidenfeld & Nicolson, has pre-empted World English language rights in Eloísa Díaz’s debut novel Repentance for publication in late 2020 or early 2021. Translation rights are now sold in Italian (Piemme) and French (Le Masque/JC Lattès) in pre-empts, and in German (Hoffman und Campe) and Spanish (Seix Barral/Planeta) at auction. Set in Argentina over a dual timeframe, Repentance is literary crime at its best, combining a classic whodunnit with a fascinating look at a complicated country and its divisive history.
Eloísa Díaz (1986) is a writer and lawyer from Madrid, who has embraced English as her literary language and completed her MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University in New York in 2013.
World English rights for the debut novel by Y.S. Seraph have been sold in a pre-empt to Amber Oliver at Harper Perennial who plans to publish in July 2020, who said: “Yaffa is clearly a talented writer and many of us here connected with her fun and entertaining novel.” A Taste of Sage is a women’s fiction debut set in New York, full of Dominican flair, about a chef who can perceive a person's emotions by tasting their cooking, pitched as Sweetbitter meets The Hating Game. Both heart-warming and uplifting in equal measure.
Y.S. Seraph was born in New Jersey. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied creative writing and visual art.
Translation and audiovisual rights are available and on offer. Please contact Maria Cardona for further information.
