#TheySpeak
Testimonies from men, their relationships with their parents, sexism, and violence
Sexism is the idealization of violence as a means, as an end, as a coercive educational tool; it is a trap that normalizes what is unacceptable.
With these words, Lydia Cacho defines the starting point of this essential book. #TheySpeak consists of testimonies from various men who talk about their childhoods and reveal the violence they experienced in their surroundings. They show us how, in a hostile and home environment, children normalize what will later trigger hierarchical, violent, and discriminatory relationships that endorse a system of impunity and savage paternalism.
Lydia Cacho goes against the current once again; she accompanies men to look in the mirror in search of an open dialogue to understand the origins of violence. The author invites readers to think from another standing point to deconstruct what we call "the normal man." This research aims to rethink male leadership; to question submission to violence so that children and young people have new anchors to build their identity without outdated beliefs.
