Rebel and Free
Rebel and Free is a book that advocates for the freedom and rebelliousness of young women. It emerged from conducting interviews in Spain over a long period of time with hundreds of teenage girls about their dreams, aspirations, fears, demands, sexual identity, etc. These different girls openly shared their thoughts and expressed their views on feminism without hesitation. They described a feminism "with open arms" that includes everyone, always raising more questions than answers.
Can one be a feminist without being an activist? Is it true that in this era there are no closets to hide sexual identity? Can one avoid labels while still being supportive of all feminist causes? Why are there still so many adults opposed to women's sexual and reproductive rights? Why are boys and girls so hooked on porn? The questions are endless.
The protagonists of this book seek answers through dialogue that reaches emotions and thoughts, with a realistic and empathetic discourse that recognizes all races, religions, and the diversity of all women: the marginalized, those who haven't had time to discover the feminism that preceded them because they arrived on a boat and have been working and studying since childhood; those who are stigmatized in the non-European migrant world; those who want to be loved by boys or girls at school and are in a delicate process of discovering how to be accepted without giving up their true selves to patriarchal stereotypes.
